NZ: Winter Snow Arrives

A brisk southwester is bringing snow and cold weather up from Antarctica today, the first real winter event of the season for New Zealand. Some South Island passes north of Queenstown are considered impassable without snow-chains.
Arthur’s Pass is being monitored closely while the usual tourist spots like Arrowtown, Tekapo and Queenstown have all received a good dump of the white stuff.
Further north, rain, thunder and lightning have been lashing the country with Wellington having flooding , even Auckland is having lightning strikes, thunder and rain.
