Covering The Camera On Your Laptop Could Destroy It Says Apple

That’s right, MacBooks, MacBook Airs and MacBook Pro users have been warned to not cover up their camera with tape as it may destroy or damage their machine.

“If you close your Mac notebook with a camera cover installed, you might damage your display because the clearance between the display and keyboard is designed to very tight tolerances,” Apple said on it’s website.

Apple reassures owners in it’s post on the matter that the green on/off light can be trusted.

Apple’s reassurance may not exactly ring true for those security minded people who are aware that cameras can be accessed even when turned off by hackers. However, Apple says this to the security minded…

These individuals should make sure their camera cover is extremely thin, will not leave adhesive residue and take it off before closing their computer.

So according to Apple it’s Ok to have the camera covered but take the tape off before you close the laptop and put another piece on when you open it. That sounds practical Apple?

As a sidenote.. Lenovo’s new laptops have cleverly built-in webcam covers, meaning you can finally ditch the piece of tape altogether.
